Tennis Leagues

CCR has a very active league program that is broken down by age, ability level, level of desired intensity and singles or doubles. The Adult Tennis Leagues are extremely active and drive a large part of the tennis play. CCR members are active in Atlanta Lawn Tennis and other USTA programs and organized league play.

Tennis Special Events

The CCR Tennis Program offers its members a full slate of special events throughout the year:

Atlanta’s Top Ranked Pro-Am (Charity Event)

Member Guest Tournament – May 21

Director’s Club Cup – November 5th

Club Tournaments

Social Mixers

Toys for Tots Round Robins

Lessons, clinics, leagues and strategy sessions for adults and juniors

Summary

CCR is one of the few private country clubs in Atlanta who understand what a strong tennis membership base can mean to the overall success of the club. While golf membership fees and dues pay for the majority expenses in most private country clubs, CCR has created a balance between golfers and tennis players that results in overall harmony with all members. A good choice either way.

Who is eligible to play in Ultimate Tennis Atlanta?

All men and women age 20 and above are eligible for ultimate tennis league play. Ultimate Tennis provides singles, doubles, and mixed doubles league matches. There are 13 different skill levels to choose from to match your particular playing level.

Why is it referred to as a “Flex League”?

It’s called a “Flex League” to emphasize the fact that you are given flexibility in the time frame you have to play your match. Ultimate Tennis Atlanta provides you a schedule of your weekly matches but you and your opponent have the flexibility to decide which day and at what time to play your match. Each season lasts from 5 to 7 weeks followed by 3 weeks of playoff matches.

How does it work and how do I get started?

Do a Google search for “ultimate tennis”, then click on “Georgia”, then “Atlanta”. Then click on “Get Started” and create your own personal account. You will be given brief skill survey to complete that will insure you will be playing with and against other players of your skill level. You will be placed on a team that plays out of a tennis facility in your area. Your printed playing schedule will show weekly matches but a 2 week window to complete the match. Ultimate Tennis has a state-of-the-art website that allows you to get instant match results, scout opponents, follow friends, report scores, and access playoff draws.

Camp Best Friends Atlanta run by The City of Atlanta Office of Recreation has a wonderful summer tennis camp with a wonderful tennis program for kids at a very reasonable rate.

Tennis summer camps in Atlanta offer great camps for junior tennis players between the ages of 13 and 19 years old. These summer camps for juniors, work with the players on their tennis skills and tennis fitness drills. Many of the junior camps offer overnight tennis camps.

Popular tennis summer camps in Atlanta

Nike Tennis Camp

Camp Best Friends Atlanta

UGA Tennis camp

Peter Howell Tennis Camp

Emory Tennis Camp

Brady Tennis Camp

Atlanta offers many of the finest tennis camps for adults that you will find in the Southeast. Most all the tennis clubs in Atlanta offer adult tennis camps. These camps are usually run in the summer for five days. Many adults looking for more advanced training will travel to one of the tennis camps for adults located outside Atlanta. A few of the most popular tennis summer camps outside Atlanta are John Newcomb Tennis Ranch, Austin Tennis Academy, Evert Tennis Academy, and Van der Meer Tennis. These more advanced tennis camps for adults teach strategic point play, stroke production, and live ball drills.

Atlantans, in general, like to active in whatever they do and this may explain why they prefer to play tennis rather than watch tennis (even when the pros come to town). The Atlanta tennis community will embrace something new in their sport if they are allowed to participate in the competition. This is one of the reasons that summer camps in Atlanta are so popular in this city. They love to play, improve, and compete. ALTA Tennis Atlanta has proven to be a huge success within the Atlanta tennis community.

You will find country clubs scattered all across Atlanta, so it is easy to find a club convienent to your area. Like all tennis centers in Atlanta, these country clubs are all affiliated with ALTA Tennis league play and T2 Tennis Atlanta.

Country Clubs In Atlanta / Indoor Tennis Courts

The availability of indoor tennis courts Atlanta is mostly limited to the higher end tennis clubs in Atlanta and the higher end private country clubs in Atlanta. However, several of these clubs offer their indoor tennis courts to the public during certain hours of the day or week in return for payment of an hourly rate for their use. Playing on indoor courts has its advantages and disadvantages. Some players do not like play an ALTA or other league match on indoor courts because it’s a very different playing experience and they feel the home team has an unfair advantage.

Tennis Shops In Atlanta

Because there is such a huge tennis market, there are many independent tennis shops in Atlanta to purchase tennis equipment and apparel. Also, shopping online is a smart way to shop if you are searching for particular items such as:

Fila tennis apparel

Tennis racquet finder

Yonex tennis racquets

Head tennis shoes

Federer racquet

Tennis racquet bags

Tennis Clubs In Atlanta

Atlanta tennis players are fortunate to have a variety of private tennis clubs all around the city which offer a variety of services and amenities, depending on your needs and your budget. Some have an initiation fee and some do not. They all have monthly dues that are broken down into three different membership categories: Single, Couple, and Family with dues ranging from approximately $35 per month to $60 per month.

An excellent alternative to private clubs are some of Atlanta’s high end apartment communities which have amenity packages much like a private club.

Tennis Lessons for Kids

Many parents want to start giving their children tennis lessons at a very early age. The best age to start tennis classes for kids is when the child is about six or seven years old. One of the most important features of every tennis lesson for young children is that the lesson always be “Fun” in the beginning. When a child is not performing a drill properly the good instructors always show the student the correct way and then follow up with praise. Many instructors will incorporate fun games that are challenging, but no one wins for the first few lessons. By having fun it keeps the child’s attention and interest. When teaching kids tennis it is very important that children get good technical instruction when they are at a young age. The techniques they learn will be with them the rest of their life.

Junior Tennis Lessons Offered in Atlanta

Junior tennis lessons are offered to teenagers 13 – 19 years old. By this age you will find junior tennis players with many different skill levels. Junior tennis players can sign up for lessons as beginners, intermediate, and advanced levels to help improve their tennis skills.

Beginners and intermediate classes teach fundamentals skills, proper movement and stroke skills, game management, and game strategy for junior tennis players.

Advanced junior tennis lessons are geared to the young players with a high skill level that have been competing for a number of years. The junior lessons teach over all game improvement, court movements, and game management and strategy.

Adult Tennis Lessons

You will find that adults have a very wide range of tennis and athletic abilities. There are many tennis players in their 90’s that play league matches every week and still enjoy healthy competition. Just like the juniors, you will find adult beginner, intermediate, and advanced tennis players.

Many of the adult group tennis lessons focus on movement training and basic tennis fundamentals. Most all the adult group lessons try to group players with similar skill levels.

To continue playing at a high level of competition, adult players still need one on one coaching that you can only get from a private tennis lesson.

Tennis Practice Drills

Tennis practice drills are very popular among all skill levels of tennis players. These are drills that concentrate on only a few skills per lesson, such as tennis footwork drills.

Private and Group Tennis Lessons

The biggest difference between group and private tennis lessons is the cost. A group lesson cost $15 – $35 per hour while a private lesson cost $70 – $85 per hour. For a beginning tennis player it is recommended that you start with several private lessons before starting group lessons. To play good tennis, you will need to learn good techniques and fundamentals from the very start.

You will find that group tennis lessons usually are started at the first of the year. Group tennis lesson are normally run in a series and cover a different technique or aspect of the game each lesson.

Special Pops Tennis Executive Director, Jim Hamm, and his team of volunteers are now teaching over 600 children and adults how to play the game and, using tennis as a platform, they are also teaching important life skills for both on and off the court. Being a contributing member of a team can make a huge difference in the quality of life of those less fortunate as well as the opportunity to meet and make new friends and go to new places.

Free Tennis Lessons Atlanta

This is a non profit organization in Atlanta, Ga and there is no charge for instruction or tennis equipment (racquets, balls, etc.). The equipment is provided free of charge through individual and corporate donations and contributions. The United States Tennis Association (USTA) has also been very generous and supportive. The program is set up to fit every level of play, from absolute novice beginner to someone a little more advanced and prefers higher level competition.

Idea Special Education

Jim Hamm said that about 80% of Special Pops Tennis participating members have a form of autism or Down syndrome. The other 20% have various mental challenges and conditions including fetal alcohol syndrome and cerebral palsy. Since tennis is defined as a “lifetime sport” it is a great fit to help others of all ages and abilities to realize their own dreams. Junior tennis lessons for these special kids can have a huge positive affect on their lives. It’s a wonderful organization comprised of wonderful people doing something very important to help others less fortunate, and . . . wonderful idea special education ” for all the right reasons”!

Atlanta tennis leagues are made up of 5 to 8 tennis teams whose players live in the same general area of Atlanta and play at the same level of competition. Matches for any particular season are scheduled on a weekly basis and there are post season playoff matches for the teams who qualify (by winning their league’s division). This playoff process continues until there is a City Championship Team crowned for every division.

Atlanta is an exciting city and one of the main strengths is that her residents are made up of active people with active lifestyles. Atlanta is known as a “strong tennis town”, not because Atlantans love to watch people play tennis, but because they love to PLAY tennis. The Atlanta leaguetennis community is, by far, the largest in the United States and the easiest to join. You and your whole family can play Atlanta league tennis regardless of the playing level of any individual.

The majority of Atlanta’s apartment communities provide all varieties of league tennis for their residents at all levels of play.

What Exactly Is T2 Tennis?

T2 Tennis is designed for men, women, and juniors for league play in singles, doubles, and mixed formats. Each team has a home court facility and matches are scheduled against other teams with equivalent playing levels within close proximity to your home court. The major difference between t2 tennis and other city wide team league play is the time flexibility allowed to play each match. Each season consists of five different matches and six weeks are allowed to complete the five matches. In other words, you have an entire week to schedule your match for the week plus an extra week at the end of the season for makeup matches.

Why Does T2 Tennis Allow This Flexible Format?

T2 Tennis originated in the north Atlanta metro area in 2002. One of the major reasons t2tennis was established was to give people a larger “time window” to complete their weekly team match as Atlanta’s other major tennis league organization has a more restrictive “time window”. In today’s busy world it is difficult for many tennis enthusiasts to play and support their team on a scheduled “play day”, especially when our ever changing weather conditions determine when matches can and can not be played.

Good Option For T2Tennis Atlanta

T2 Tennis Atlanta provides an excellent option for people who want to play team league tennis but have other family and business responsibilities that prevent them from giving a full commitment to their team. Atlanta has more recreational tennis players than other city in the United States, and T2 Tennis Atlanta is filling a previous void that kept certain people from enjoying this competitive sport. Apartment communities in and around Atlanta are excellent providers for league tennis.

Atlanta, . . enjoy your T2 Tennis!
